# CNotepad > CNotepad is a free online notepad that runs entirely in the browser. It opens with the cursor ready to type in a plain-text notepad, and has an optional drag-and-drop sticky-note board with colors, search and templates. No account or installation is needed, notes are saved automatically in the browser's local storage on the user's own device (not uploaded to a server), and it works offline once loaded. Key facts: - Free, with no sign-up and no limit on notes or tabs. - Share by link: the Share button copies a URL with the note compressed into the fragment (#share=...). The fragment is never sent to a server, so shared notes are not stored by CNotepad; recipients get their own copy. - Features: instant plain-text mode with word count and .txt download, sticky-note board mode, multiple tabs, 5 note colors, search, templates (Kanban, meeting notes, brainstorming, project planning), trash with restore, export/import (JSON per tab or workspace, .txt per note), offline support. - Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+N new note, Ctrl+T new tab, Ctrl+F search. - Privacy: note content stays on the user's device. Clearing browser data deletes notes, so users should export backups. - CNotepad is not Notepad++ and is not affiliated with it. Notepad++ is a separate free desktop code editor for Windows, available from https://notepad-plus-plus.org/. There is no official online version of Notepad++. ## Tools - [Online Notepad](https://cnotepad.com/): The main app. Opens ready to type, with share-by-link and an optional sticky-note board. - [Keyboard Zen](https://cnotepad.com/keyboard-zen/): Free typing speed test (WPM and accuracy) with local progress history. - [Mini Mood Journal](https://cnotepad.com/mood-journal/): Private daily mood tracker with emoji and short notes, stored locally. ## Guides - [Guides index](https://cnotepad.com/guides/): Practical guides on note-taking, typing, focus and self-reflection. - [Note-Taking Methods That Actually Work](https://cnotepad.com/guides/note-taking-methods): Cornell, outline, mind-mapping, Zettelkasten and spatial notes, and when each fits. - [Why Sticky Notes Beat Long Documents (Sometimes)](https://cnotepad.com/guides/sticky-notes-productivity): Spatial sticky-note thinking compared with linear documents. - [Kanban Basics for Personal Projects](https://cnotepad.com/guides/kanban-basics): Three columns, a work-in-progress limit, and a board you can maintain. - [Brainstorming Techniques for Small Teams](https://cnotepad.com/guides/brainstorming-techniques): Brainwriting, crazy eights, SCAMPER and affinity mapping. - [Meeting Notes Without the Bloat](https://cnotepad.com/guides/meeting-notes-guide): Separate decisions, actions and context, and keep notes short. - [How to Practise Typing Effectively](https://cnotepad.com/guides/typing-speed-tips): Posture, drills, goals beyond raw WPM, and avoiding plateaus. - [What WPM Numbers Actually Mean](https://cnotepad.com/guides/wpm-benchmarks): Typical WPM ranges and how accuracy fits in. - [Keyboard Shortcuts Worth Learning First](https://cnotepad.com/guides/keyboard-shortcuts): The cross-app shortcuts that save the most time, plus CNotepad's own. - [Protecting Focus in a Noisy Day](https://cnotepad.com/guides/focus-and-deep-work): Habits and environment changes that help focused work survive. - [What a Daily Mood Log Can and Cannot Do](https://cnotepad.com/guides/mood-tracking-benefits): Realistic expectations for a simple mood journal. - [Notepad++ Online: Can You Use It in a Browser?](https://cnotepad.com/notepad-plus-plus-online/): Why there is no official web version of Notepad++ and what to use instead. ## Optional - [About](https://cnotepad.com/about): What CNotepad is and who it is for. - [Privacy Policy](https://cnotepad.com/privacy): How data, analytics and advertising are handled. - [Contact](https://cnotepad.com/contact): How to reach the site owner.
