This page explains what cookies are used on cnotepad.com, what they do, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device so it can recognise you on return visits or measure how you use the site. Some cookies also help show relevant advertising. Similar technologies include pixel tags, local storage, and device identifiers; for simplicity this policy refers to all of them as "cookies".
These are required for the site to load and display correctly. Without them, basic features such as rendering pages and remembering your dark-mode preference will not work. They cannot be switched off.
The notes you create are stored in your browser's Local Storage, not in a cookie. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted. You can clear it at any time through your browser's "Clear site data" option or the in-app Trash.
CNotepad uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-GRESQ2FB22) to understand which pages are used, for how long, and what issues people run into. Analytics cookies are only used in aggregate.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique users | Up to 2 years |
_ga_<property-id> | Google Analytics 4 | Maintains session state | Up to 2 years |
_gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes users for 24 hours | 24 hours |
Where Google AdSense is active, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies to serve, frequency-cap, and measure ads. Depending on your region and your preferences, these may be used for either non-personalised or personalised advertising.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads | Ad delivery and measurement | Up to 13 months | |
__gpi | Limits ad frequency; interest signals | Up to 13 months | |
IDE / NID | Google (DoubleClick) | Ad targeting, measurement, fraud prevention | Up to 13 months |
Cookie names, vendors, and durations can change over time as Google updates its systems. The list above reflects the current state to the best of our knowledge.
You have several ways to control cookies:
Blocking some cookies will not break CNotepad. Your notes live in Local Storage, which is independent of cookies. You can safely disable analytics or advertising cookies and continue using every feature of the site.
Where local law requires it, non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) are only set after you have given consent. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your cookies and revisiting the site, or by using the browser and vendor controls listed above.
We may update this page if the set of cookies in use changes. The "Last reviewed on" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
